Advisory: Scam E-mail - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.
Currently an e-mail is circulating, allegedly from the “National Olympic Committee”. The e-mail claims that the recipient’s e-mail address was selected to receive two tickets to the 2012 London Olympics and a prize of £150,000. The e-mail states that in order to claim the money the recipient must disclose their personal information such as their name, age, gender, occupation, home and e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.
Residents should ignore these unsolicited messages or similar ‘official looking e-mails’ claiming to offer prizes by requiring the recipient’s personal information.
Anyone who may have been affected by this scam is encouraged to contact the Financial Crime Unit on 295-0011.
