Fatal RTC

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 51 year old Albert Peets of Smith's parish. Mr. Peets was riding west on North Shore Road in Devonshire when his motorcycle collided with a car exiting Foothills Road around 3:15pm on Tuesday. He was rushed to KEMH via ambulance in an unresponsive state and pronounced dead at 3:35pm by an on call physician at the hospital. The driver of the car, a 28 year old Hamilton parish man, was not injured. Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to this fatal road traffic collision to contact Sergeant Paul Simons on 299-4265 or the main Police number, 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Assault/Attempted Robbery

Around 1:45 this morning, Police attended a reported assault on Burnaby Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Church Street. On arrival officers spoke with the victims, a 24 year old Devonshire woman and a 22 year old Paget woman. The women stated that around 1:30am they left a Front Street establishment and were walking to their motorcycles which were parked in the area of Burnaby Street/Church Street, when they were approached by an unknown man. He grabbed both their handbags, but they held on to them. The man then punched the Devonshire woman in her left eye; but she managed to escape, running along Burnaby Street while using her cellular phone to call Police. He also punched the Paget woman in the face before fleeing the scene on foot towards Cedar Avenue. The suspect, a 20 year old Devonshire man was subsequently arrested by Police on Brunswick Street, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. The victims were treated at KEMH for facial bruising and abrasions and released. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
