June 8 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, May 31st – Monday, June 7th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 28
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 37
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 10
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 2, Paget = 1 and Warwick = 3.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles with 2 cars & 1 Jet Ski trailer also reported stolen during the period. Of the 10 vehicles reported stolen, none were subsequently recovered.

Burglary

Around 5:15pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Radnor Road, Hamilton parish residence. It appears that sometime during the day an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of electronic equipment and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

There have been several reported burglaries in the eastern parishes recently. Police are appealing for anyone with any information about these incidents to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Removed Vehicle

Around 9:30pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a vehicle taken without its owner’s consent. It appears that sometime between 8pm and 9:20pm that day, an unknown culprit removed the blue Mitsubishi Pajero jeep license # 07692 from Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish, near the junction with Lolly’s Well Road. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for anyone with any information on the whereabouts of a blue Mitsubishi Pajero jeep license # 07692 to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.
