At 1:35pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported disturbance at Saltus Grammar School in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke to a witness/victim, a 36 year old Pembroke woman, who stated that around 1:20pm she was leaving the school grounds after training at the Saltus/Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association's pool when she observed a male student being assaulted on school property by an unknown young man who was not in school uniform. She shouted at the assailant to stop, but he continued to punch the student until he fell to the ground. The suspect then kicked the victim about his head and body before walking away from the premises with three other young men. The Pembroke woman called 911 on her cellular phone to report the matter and followed the young men as they left via Canal Road; however they looked back, apparently realized what she was doing and began to chase her. She turned and ran, falling in the process; but quickly got up and made good her escape, leaving her red duffel bag behind. The main suspect stopped, picked up the bag and removed a BlackBerry hand held device and a pink purse containing $80 in cash before fleeing the scene on foot with the three other young men. The student/main victim, a 15 year old Sandy's parish boy, sustained facial cuts and abrasions. He was treated at KEMH for his injuries and released. The 36 year old Pembroke woman sustained abrasions to her right knee and left hip in the fall as she made good her escape and was advised to seek medical attention. The main suspect, a 19 year old St. George's man, was subsequently arrested at Dellwood Middle School. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
