Reported Gunshots/Suspicious Activity - There were increased high visibility Police patrols throughout the island over the weekend. Stop and searches were carried out at various locations and arrests made for a variety of offences. However, there were reports of what were believed to be gunshots heard in the Friswells Road, Devonshire area around 6:45pm Friday; the Reid Street/Burnaby Street, Pembroke area around 1:20am Saturday; and The Glebe Road/St. Monica’s Road, Pembroke area around 12:15am today (Sunday). Loud noises were also heard in the Serpentine Road/Trelawney Lane area of Pembroke around 8pm Friday. Armed officers attended all of these incidents; however on arrival there was nothing found to substantiate the gunshot reports. Inquiries are ongoing and the public is encouraged to report any similar circumstances to the Police immediately.
Robbery
Around 12:05am today (Sunday), Police received a report of a robbery at a Green Acres Road, Devonshire residence. It appears that three unknown men entered the home and demanded money, with one of the men brandishing what appeared to be a firearm. There were reportedly three women and two men in the residence at the time. One of the male occupants was struck with the suspected firearm resulting in a small laceration and swelling to his face before the offenders made good their escape on foot with a quantity of cash. No one else was injured. The main suspect is described as approximately 5’4” tall of small build wearing a cream, black & beige coloured scarf, a beige bubble jacket, a black & grey helmet and sunglasses. The other two suspects are described as approximately 6’ tall wearing a navy blue tracksuit and a black helmet with the visor down; and approximately 5’6” tall of slim build wearing a white Helly Hanson type jacket, blue jeans, white sneakers and a black helmet with a visor. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
Injury RTC
Around 3:50am today (Sunday), Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Allspice Gardens in Warwick. It appears that a car was traveling north on Allspice Gardens and a motorcycle was traveling west on Middle Road when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 35 year old Warwick man, sustained a cut over his right eye, a cut to his right leg and an injury to his foot. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car, a 22 year old Paget woman, was not injured. The motorcycle and the car received moderate damage. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident; particularly the female driver of taxi T1818, who is believed to be the first person at the scene following the collision, to contact PC Lesa Stovell at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.
Weather Related Incidents
Around 3:40pm Saturday, the City of Hamilton and the central parishes were struck by a reported tornado. Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, Works & Engineering and Corporation of Hamilton attended the scene. There were several trees down in and around the city area; however, no reported injuries. There was also roof damage to the Magistrates’ Court building, reported roof damage to a Cloverdale, Devonshire apartment, some reported vehicle damage in the City of Hamilton, as well as reported damage to the HSBC Bank of Bermuda building, Church Street branch. Roads that were closed or partially closed have since been re-opened to regular traffic.
