The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 20th - Monday July 27th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 25
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 46
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 15
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 2, Hamilton parish = 2, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 6, Paget = 1, Southampton = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 15 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

At 5:25pm on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Keith Hall Road involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling west on Middle Road, with the car in front of the motorcycle. The car slowed down due to traffic ahead; however, the motorcycle was unable to slow down in time and collided with the rear of the car. The rider of the motorcycle, a 19 year old Warwick man, sustained lacerations to his shoulders and forehead. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance, treated and released. The driver of the car, a 56 year old Warwick woman, was not injured. The motorcycle received extensive front end damage while the car received moderate rear end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 4:50pm on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Queen’s Lane and Brightside Crescent in Smith’s parish. It appears that an auxiliary cycle was traveling along Queen’s Lane and a motorcycle was traveling along Brightside Crescent when the vehicles collided at the junction. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 16 year old Smith’s parish woman, sustained a fractured right wrist. She was taken to KEMH for treatment. The rider of the motorcycle, a 41 year old Smith’s parish woman, was not injured. The motorcycle was not damaged while the auxiliary cycle received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 8am on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Crow Lane in Pembroke involving three vehicles. It appears that a van and two cars were traveling in a line of traffic when all three vehicles collided. The driver of the van, a 33 year old Paget man, was not injured. The driver of the middle car, a 34 year old Warwick man, was not injured; however his front seat passenger, a 26 year old Southampton woman, sustained an injury to her left side. She was taken to KEMH via ambulance, treated and released. The driver of the lead car, a 20 year old Devonshire man, was not injured. All three vehicles received moderate damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
