Commissioner of Police Michael A. DeSilva

Welcome to The Bermuda Police Service's Official Website.

We now hope our website provides an additional opportunity for the Service to maintain contact with the community we serve and to promote a better understanding of the work we do.

Policing in the year 2015 and beyond is focused on contributing towards the creation of more orderly neighbourhoods; creating less potential for criminality; having an impact on serious crimes and the drugs menace; working towards a sustained reduction in crime levels; managing the wide array of complex and often competing demands; understanding the diverse needs of our community and working in partnership at every available opportunity.

In order to achieve this, Commissioner DeSilva has introduced the Bermuda Police Service Policing Plan for 2013/14. In his foreword the Commissioner states in part - "The plan reflects views and concerns expressed by a cross-section of people in Bermuda. It also takes into account the Bermuda Government’s priorities for the police service, along with those priorities held by His Excellency the Governor.

This final document represents the shared aims across the community for the police to deliver a high quality of service that is focused on people and aimed at safety. Bermuda continues to be in a time of economic restraint and the coming year is likely to present economic challenges. We police a modern and complex society with increasing demands being made of our limited resources.

The Bermuda Police Service will continue to adapt, adjust and make necessary cost savings where we can. Despite the financial challenges, we are committed to providing efficient and productive policing services that reduce crime and antisocial behaviour. But we can’t do everything; in order to be effective, we must prioritise our activities. Our particular focus this year remains on those crimes that are of most concern to the local community: guns, gangs, drugs and violence."

Full details of the Plan can be found by viewing the Policing Plan for 2013/14. If you do not have Adobe Reader, you can download it here [Adobe Reader].

Policing must instill confidence in the community we serve. We believe that our work can only be successful if the public trusts us for our accessibility, our ability to report on our performance and our integrity.

In the future, we hope to develop the interactive capability of this site to provide more services and information which will increase access to the community we serve.
