Disturbance

Around 2:15pm today, Police attended a reported disturbance at the Devonshire Recreation Club in Devonshire. It appears that two extra duty Police officers were monitoring the premises for a Bermuda Football Association game when they saw a group of approximately 20 youth brandishing bladed articles approaching the gate in an attempt to gain entry into the Devonshire Recreation Club grounds. The officers called for additional Police units which immediately responded to the scene. The youths then made good their escape on foot. No one was injured. As a result, the BFA games scheduled for this afternoon at ‘Devonshire Rec have been cancelled. A full investigation into the incident is underway. Handbag Snatch

At 8:25pm on Friday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke, outside of the BF&M building. The victim, a 27 year old Warwick woman, was standing on the sidewalk with her boyfriend when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode up beside them and snatched the Warwick womans handbag. The suspect then made good his escape traveling west on Pitts Bay Road. The victim was not injured. The handbag contained a quantity of cash, a Nokia cellular phone, an I-Pod and personal items. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black helmet and a black shirt, riding a black motorcycle. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Media Note

Police Week 2007 is now officially underway and the Bermuda Police Service will be holding its Police Parade at 1pm tomorrow (Monday) at Police Headquarters in Prospect, Devonshire. Spectators are encouraged to get to Police Headquarters by 12:30pm so that the parade can begin promptly at 1pm. The rain venue for the parade will be Cedarbridge Academy.
