Around 3:10 this morning, Police attended a serious road traffic collision on Somerset Road in Sandys parish, near the junction with Tankard Lane involving a van and a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling east on Somerset Road and the van was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the cycle, a 34 year old Southampton man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however, he was subsequently pronounced dead at 4:10am by an on call physician at the hospital. The driver of the van, a 24 year old Sandys parish man, was not injured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the van received moderate front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Valerius Jean Louis on 234-1010. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
