Sailboat Aground, Capsized

At 6:45pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a sailing vessel that had run aground and capsized, approximately half a mile off St. David’s Head. As a result officers from the Police Marine Unit attended the scene and located the vessel, ‘Aymie-G.’ Other local vessels also offered assistance. The skipper, a 57 year old British national, was the only person aboard the ‘Aymie-G’ and was rescued uninjured. It appears that the British national was attempting to sail from Georgetown, South Carolina to St. Miguel in the Azores singlehanded and diverted to Bermuda to take on additional fuel when the mishap occurred. It is anticipated that a determination on the best way to recover the ‘Aymie-G’ will be made today.

Injury RTC

At 1:15pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Knapton Hill in Smith’s parish, near the junction with Skyline Road. It appears that a car was traveling west on Knapton Hill when the driver, a 35 year old Warwick man, lost control and the vehicle overturned. The car received damage to its entire left side as a result. The driver was not injured; however his passengers, a 34 year old Warwick woman (wife) and son sustained relatively minor injuries (a laceration to the left elbow and an injury to the left knee respectively). The son was taken to KEMH as a precaution.

Robbery

At 11:20pm on Friday, Police received a report of a robbery. The victim, a 64 year old St. George’s man, stated that around 10:50pm that day he drove his truck to his warehouse on St. David’s Road in St. George’s after working at Cup Match. As he exited the truck, he was assaulted by two unknown men who demanded money. The culprits eventually took the victim’s wallet from his pants and a bank bag from the truck and made good their escape on foot. The wallet contained a quantity of cash and personal items and the bank bag contained a quantity of cash. The St. George’s man sustained a laceration to his forehead and abrasions to his body. He attended KEMH for treatment of his injuries. The suspects are described as two black males, one wearing a white shirt and long blue jeans and the other wearing a red crash helmet. The victim’s wallet was subsequently recovered at the scene minus the cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.
