Police Officers Equipped with Incapacitant Spray

Thu, 2006-04-20

Following the permission granted by the Minister of Labour, Home Affairs & Public Safety, the Commissioner of Police at 8am today authorized the distribution of the incapacitant spray known as 'Captor' to Police officers trained in its use. So far 247 Police officers (both uniformed and plain-clothed, including members of the Bermuda Reserve Police) have been trained in the use of 'Captor'. The officers have also been trained in the aftercare of any individual exposed to the incapacitant spray. In addition, facilities are available at all Police stations for the aftercare of individuals exposed to 'Captor'.

'Captor' has the ability to safely and temporarily incapacitate an aggressive, violent or armed individual until more effective techniques can be used or the situation is otherwise controlled
