“The news today from Ministry of Health that a local transmission has occurred with no obvious connection to travel has reminded us all that the pandemic is far from over, even here in Bermuda.

The Editorial in today’s Royal Gazette also strongly makes the point that it is up to all of us to work together to keep each other, and in particular the vulnerable, safe from infection.

Desercration of Grave

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of several videos circulating on social media showing individuals desecrating a grave at a centrally located cemetery.

This vile and disrespectful act, is strongly condemned by the Bermuda Police Service, and we are looking to bring the perpetrator/s to justice.

We would also ask that members of the public who my receive these videos, think of the families and love ones of the deceased and refrain from sharing or forwarding them.

Firearm and Ammunition Recovered

The Bermuda Police Service is able to report that a firearm and several rounds of ammunition were recovered during an operation this past weekend.

The operation involved several units within the BPS, with warrants executed at multiple locations in the central parishes, in relation to a number of ongoing investigations

It was during the execution of a warrant at a property on Elliot Street, Pembroke, that the firearm and ammunition were recovered. The firearm is to be forensically examined to determine whether it may have been used in any gun related crimes locally. 

Two suspects, a 28-year-old male and a 26-year-old male were subsequently arrested in connection with the recovery of these items. However, that have both been granted police bail, pending further enquiries.

6th Road Traffic Fatality for 2020

Bermuda has recorded its 6th road traffic fatality, following a two vehicle collision in Sandy’s Parish.

At around 9:24 a.m. today, Sunday 8th November, police received a report of a serious two vehicle traffic collision involving a car and a bike on Somerset Road, Sandy’s in the area of Morgan Hill. 

Officers and other first responders attended the scene where they found an eighteen-year-old male motorcycle rider, who had suffered a serious head injury and was unresponsive.

He was transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged, however, female driver of the car was not injured in the collision.

The incident resulted in major traffic delays as the roadway way was closed off while Traffic Collision Investigators and officers from the Forensic Support Unit processed the scene.

Armed Robbery Update

The Bermuda Police Service is once again appealing for the public’s assistance with the ongoing investigation into an armed robbery, which took place at the Somer’s Supermart in St. Georges earlier this week.

Shortly before 6:00 a.m. on Monday, 2nd November, police received a report of a robbery at the Somer’s Supermart in St. Georges.

It is alleged that a male brandished a firearm, forced the manager into the store and demanded cash.

The suspect is described as 5’ 9” tall, medium built, dressed in blue jeans, a black hoody, black sneakers with a surgical mask covering his face.

Young Man Chased by Others on Another Cycle

The Bermuda Police service (BPS), is aware of a video clip circulating on social media, which depicts a young man on an auxiliary cycle, apparently being chased by individuals on another cycle. 

Reports are the incident occurred last Sunday evening on Middle Road, Paget near Belmont.

The young man was at the time riding in an easterly direction when the second cycle which was headed in a westerly direction, turned around and began following him.   

In the video clip the individuals on the second cycle appear to be trying to intimidate the young man and reports are they followed him until he rode into a driveway. They are said to have then moved on without incident.

In his attempts to escape the individuals on the second cycle the young man had cause to ride at a high rate of speed, putting himself and other road users at risk.

A report on this incident has been made to the BPS.

Pyramid Scam Alert

The Bermuda Police Service wishes to once again remind the public to be alert to individuals who may attempt to fraudulently obtain money from you, via what may appear to be legitimate means.

In recent times there has been an increase in these schemes disguised as investment opportunities.

The latest such scheme encourages individuals to invest in a bitcoin plan with promises of returns of as much as one hundred and thirty thousand dollars after sixty days.

This is actually yet another example of a pyramid scheme.

Pyramid schemes usually entice new investors by offering higher returns than other investment vehicles, usually in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent.

Delivery Driver Accosted

In light of concerns expressed on social media by members of the public, following media reports on a matter in which a replica firearm and a knife were reportedly brandished during a confrontation against a food service delivery driver, the Bermuda Police Service wishes to provide the following clarification.

At approximately 7.50pm on Wednesday 28th October 2020, Police responded to a report of a suspicious incident that occurred at an address on Harrington Sound Road, Hamilton Parish. Police immediately began enquires into the matter.  

At approximately 9.55pm on the same date, a suspect was arrested in connection with this matter. A search of a residence was conducted and items were seized by Police and a second suspect was subsequently arrested.

Armed Robbery at Somer's Supermart

Shortly before 6:00 a.m. today, Monday 2nd November, police received a report of a robbery at the Somer’s Supermart in St. Georges.

It was reported that a male entered the store, brandished a firearm and demanded cash.

The suspect is described as 5’ 9” tall, he was dressed in all black with a black mask covering his face.

38-yr-old Man Critical after Collision

A 38 year old male is listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, after he sustained serious head injuries in a serious road traffic collision involving three motorcycles.

The collision occurred shortly after 7:15 p.m. on Sunday 1st October, on Somerset Road, Sandy’s Parish, in the vicinity of Four Star Pizza.

The injured male was attended to at the scene by EMTs and transported to hospital via ambulance.

The two other motorcyclists sustained minor injuries.

The roadway was closed off as Traffic Collision Investigators and officers from the Forensics Support Unit processed the scene.
