911 Emergency / 211 Non-Emergency

Shawn Russell

Deputy Commandant

Deputy Commandant Russell joined the Bermuda Reserve Police (BRP) on November 13, 2000 and after successfully completing the Reserve Recruit Foundation Course, spent the next several years attached to the Central Uniform Division. With this experience under his belt, he was invited to join the stand-alone Crime Patrol Unit. It was while serving with this unit that he began to develop as a leader, by utilising the skills that he gained early in his voluntary service.

Deputy Commandant Russell has redesigned how the organisation approaches recruitment, such that it now mirrors that of the Bermuda Police Service. He has also overseen changes to performance assessments and standardised training for BRP officers.

Despite being the mainstay of the Recruitment and Training Unit, Deputy Commandant Russell has remained fully operational and is in fact, one of the most active operational officers. Deputy Commandant Russell’s commitment to his own development sets a standard for others within the organisation to emulate.

A driving force behind the Tutor Constable Programme, he was promoted to the post of Deputy Commandant on November 3, 2023 and now carries the responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of the Bermuda Reserve Police.
