Fatal Industrial Accident [Updated]

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th, 2023, police attended a report of an industrial accident at a construction site in St. George.

It was reported a 42-year-old male Portuguese National, was working at the site when he was struck by a steel beam.

EMTs attended and transported the injured male to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead, a short time later.

Officers from the Bermuda Police Service Forensic Support Unit visited and processed the scene.

Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.

The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family of the deceased.

No further information will be provided at this time.

Update: Thursday, 16th NovemberThe Bermuda Police Service, (BPS), can now confirm the identity of the male Portuguese National who was fatally injured in an industrial accident which occurred last week, as 42-year-old Nelson Macedo.

Mr. Macedo was reportedly struck by a steel-beam shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th, while he worked at a construction site, in St. George.

He was transported via ambulance to hospital for treatment for his injuries. Unfortunately, he passed away a short time later.

An autopsy is anticipated in due course.
