Damage Only RTC/Impaired Driving - Around 3:40am on Wednesday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke. It appears that a car was traveling north on Pitts Bay Road when the driver, a 25 year old Pembroke woman lost control and collided with a wall, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver was not injured; her two passengers, a 19 year old Pembroke woman and a 21 year old St. George’s woman were also apparently uninjured, both declining medical attention. The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. The car was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

The Bermuda Police Service has noted the public comments that have been made about the Supreme Court ruling in relation to the trial of Roger Bowen. We have received a copy of the Court ruling and have been consulting with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions about our processes.

Repeat Offender Pleads Guilty - Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

41 year old Neville Woods of St. George’s recently appeared in Supreme Court to face charges relating to two burglaries in the St. George’s area in May of this year. He maintained his innocence regarding the burglaries but eventually pled guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.

Task Force to Investigate Child Internet Pornography

A special task force has been established within the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Child Victims Unit to conduct a comprehensive investigation into offences relating to child internet pornography. The task force is targeting all offenders and several persons have been identified, including a probationary Police Constable. The Bermuda Police Service takes this matter very seriously indeed and it will proactively pursue all opportunities to bring offenders to justice. The matter is currently under active investigation. A file will be prepared in due course and sent to the DPP. No further comment will be made regarding this matter at this time.

Injury RTC - At 12:15am today, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Middle Road and Parsons Lane in Devonshire. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling east on Middle Road when the rider, a 23 year old Pembroke man, lost control and collided with a utility pole and a tree. The Pembroke man sustained head injuries as well as two broken ankles and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The motorcycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Disturbance at Fort Hamilton

Around 5pm today, Police attended a reported disturbance at Fort Hamilton. Details about what occurred are unclear; however, it appears that an altercation took place between several individuals, with one of them brandishing a bladed article. As a result, a 23 year old Devonshire man was injured. He was taken to KEMH for treatment. A car fleeing the scene collided with a wall near the junction of Happy Valley Road and King Street in Pembroke.

November 8 - Weekend Report

Injury RTC - At 9:15am today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Dundonald Street and Brunswick Street in Pembroke involving a car and a motorcycle. It appears that the car was traveling west on Dundonald Street and the motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 48 year old Southampton man, complained of pain to his body and was taken to KEMH for treatment. The driver of the car, a 33 year old Pembroke woman, was not injured. The car received front end damage while the motorcycle was also damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Update - Shooting in Middletown

Approximately 6pm Friday, November 6th Police attended a report of gunshots in the area of King Street and Middletown Lane in Pembroke. As a result, a 24 year old Pembroke man and a 31 year old Devonshire man were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. The 31 year old Devonshire man has since been released from the hospital and the 24 year old Pembroke man remains on a general ward.

Inquiries are ongoing. The Serious Crime Unit has 20 detectives investigating this incident and has adequate resources available to assist if necessary. A 26 year old Pembroke man is currently in custody in connection with this matter.
