Marine Offences Procedure Act 2006

Tue, 2006-08-01

The Marine Police, Marine & Ports officers and Fisheries Inspectors are now in a position to issue tickets for persons committing marine offences as a result of the introduction of the Marine Offences Procedure Act 2006. This is a procedural change in the prosecution of marine offences which brings it in line with the long standing method of dealing with traffic offences.

In addition to streamlining the procedure, it will enable an offender, in most instances, to pay a fixed penalty fine rather than being required to attend court. The Marine Police would encourage the boating public to make sure they are familiar with current marine legislation and ensure they comply accordingly.
