Handbag Snatch

At 1:45 this morning, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on Queen Street in the City of Hamilton. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 31 year old Paget woman. She stated that around 1:30am she was walking with a female friend east along Front Street approaching the junction with Queen Street when an unknown man ran up behind them and grabbed her purse. The man then ran up Queen Street towards the Bermuda Public Library, with the Paget woman chasing him. The suspect, a 31 year old Southampton man, managed to elude the victim in the area of the Par-La-Ville car park; however, he was subsequently located by Police and arrested. He was then taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. The white purse, which contained $50 in cash, reading glasses and personal items was recovered, minus the cash. The 31 year old woman was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Theft

At 8:35am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported theft from a construction site on Government Hill Road in St. George's. On arrival officers spoke with the foreman who stated that sometime between 4pm on Monday and 7am on Tuesday, an unknown culprit stole several pieces of lumber. The lumber consisted of 20 lengths of 16'x2"x4", 20 lengths of 12'x4"x4" and 5 sheets of 5/8" plywood. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
