Sudden Death

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 68 year old Wilbur Gardiner of Pembroke was as a result of natural causes. There were no suspicious circumstances. Mr. Gardiner was found around 8:30am Tuesday at his Elliot Street residence, lying in bed in an unresponsive state and was later pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.


Searches Performed Under Criminal Code Amendment Act No. 2 (2005)

Over the weekend the Bermuda Police Service performed the first searches under the Criminal Code Amendment Act No. 2, 2005. The Police Support Unit (PSU) set up checkpoints on North Shore Road near the Pembroke Community Club (PCC) and on Spanish Point Road near Point Mart in Pembroke based on information received about a function taking place and the potential for violence at the Pembroke Community Club.

A total of 37 people were stopped and searched. Five people were arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs, four people were arrested for outstanding warrants and one person was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. There were no reported incidents at the Pembroke Community Club.

The Police Support Unit (PSU) also monitored patrons attending Slipaway Lounge on North Shore Road in Devonshire. However, due to the high profile Police presence, there were no incidents to report at that location. The operation concluded in about an hour and a half.
