Arrest - First Use of 'Captor' Incapacitant Spray

Around 4:25pm on Saturday, Police used the 'Captor' incapacitant spray for the first time. Officers were on patrol when they observed a 35 year old Southampton man commit an offence at the junction of Court Street and Elliot Street in Pembroke. He was warned to cease committing the offence. When he did not, the officers attempted to affect his arrest.

Following the permission granted by the Minister of Labour, Home Affairs & Public Safety, the Commissioner of Police at 8am today authorized the distribution of the incapacitant spray known as 'Captor' to Police officers trained in its use. So far 247 Police officers (both uniformed and plain-clothed, including members of the Bermuda Reserve Police) have been trained in the use of 'Captor'.

At 1 this morning, Police attended a reported disturbance at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect, Devonshire. On arrival officers observed approximately 100 young people in the area, following a function at the club.

Burglary

Around 6:30pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Railway Trail, Southampton residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainants who stated that sometime between 6:45am and 5:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a Nokia cellular phone and $210 worth of coins. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 8:20am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported burglary at Stepping Stones Nursery & Preschool on Middle Road in Devonshire. On arrival officers spoke with a teacher at the preschool who stated that sometime between 8:30pm on Monday and 7:25am on Tuesday, an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole 2 JVC portable radios and a pink 'Hello Kitty' bag.

Burglary

At 4:45pm on Monday, Police attended a reported burglary at a West Side Road, Sandy's parish residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 10:30am and 4:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home. The culprit stole $50 worth of coins. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
