On Friday 1st November, 2019, police officers executed a search warrant at a Southampton residence, resulting in the seizure of a quantity of illegal items.

These included twenty rounds of live ammunition as well as suspected diamorphine, suspected cannabis and cannabis resin.

The quantity of suspected illegal drugs seized would suggest they were meant for supply.

The ammunition and suspected dugs were recovered following a targeted police operation.

A 26 year old male arrested in connection with this seizure, is expected to appear before the courts in due course.

Meanwhile, between June & October 2019, detectives from the BPS Serious Crime & Drugs Units worked with the HM Customs and local courier companies to identify and examine a number of suspicious packages.

Inside these packages were items determined to be firearms components.

A suspect who was identified and charged as a result of this investigation has already appeared in court.

Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro, who heads up the BPS Crime Division said:

“The interception of these items means our community is that much safer and has resulted in firearms being kept out of the hands of criminals.

The Bermuda Police Service treats incidents of this nature extremely seriously and we are constantly working with our local & international partners to combat the importation of firearms and other controlled items or drugs.
