Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Wright today formally announced his intentions of retiring from the Bermuda Police Service after 34 years of service. Mr. Wright came to Bermuda from the UK after serving 6 years with the Humberside Police and has served in a wide variety of policing posts locally such as Community Policing, Criminal Investigations, Special Branch, Intelligence and Serious Crime.

Deputy Commissioner Wright states:

“I am delighted that Commissioner Corbishley has settled into the role so quickly and that his vision for the future of the Bermuda Police Service has so energized the senior leadership team as well as the rank and file of the Service. It is with this optimism in mind that I feel confident that the time has come for me to retire. I have had a stimulating and diverse policing career spanning forty years, thirty-four of which have been with the men and women of the Bermuda Police Service of whom I am so proud. “

Commissioner Corbishley added:

“Deputy Commissioner Wright has given 40 years of his life to policing. He has held a position at the executive level in the Bermuda Police Service for the last 7 years, previously as Assistant Commissioner and now as Deputy Commissioner. Mr. Wright’s legacy upon retirement leaves behind a long track record of high performance, achieving results, and making significant improvements to policing in Bermuda. He has showed exceptional leadership during times of unprecedented violence, economic challenge and constant change. Indeed he has been at the forefront in developing a new community policing model for Bermuda that will be introduced over the coming months and he will be greatly missed by colleagues in the police and within other Government Departments. On a personal level Mr. Wright has been extremely supportive to me in my first months as Police Commissioner, enabling me to understand the needs of our officers and staff and most importantly the public service wanted by our local communities. I wish him the very best of luck as he retires as an exceptional police officer.”

Deputy Commissioner Wright’s last working day will be Monday, November 5th and a successor will be announced in due course.
