Around 4:25 this morning, Police attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision at the junction of North Shore Road and Palmetto Road in Devonshire (Barkers Hill round-a-bout). Some details about the collision remain unclear; however, it appears that two men were on a motorcycle traveling east on Palmetto Road when the rider lost control and collided with the western ‘island’ of the round-a-bout. Both men were thrown from the cycle as a result. One of the men, a 19 year old from Pembroke, sustained serious head injuries as well as cuts & abrasions to his body and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. The other man, an 18 year old from Hamilton parish, only sustained cuts & abrasions to his body. He was taken to KEMH, treated and later released. The motorcycle was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Robert Butterfield on 295-0011.
