Injury RTC

Around 2pm on Thursday, Police attended a road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Devonshire near the junction with Montpelier Road involving two auxiliary cycles. It appears that both auxiliary cycles were traveling east on Middle Road when the second auxiliary cycle collided with the rear of the first, causing the rider to lose control. Both cycles were damaged and the rider of the second auxiliary cycle, a 17 year old Pembroke boy, was taken to KEMH for treatment of neck injuries. He was subsequently flown overseas on Friday, July 29 by air ambulance for further treatment. The rider of the first auxiliary cycle, a 16 year old Hamilton parish boy was not injured while his passenger, a 16 year old Pembroke boy, sustained minor injuries. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Assault

At 3:40 this morning, Police attended a reported assault on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton outside Champions Nightclub. It appears that around 3am the victim, a 24 year old man, was standing outside of Champions Nightclub when an unknown man stabbed him in his left side. The suspect then made good his escape prior to the arrival of Police. The victim was taken by ambulance to KEMH for treatment; however, his injury is not believed to be life threatening and he is currently in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital. The suspect is described as a black male of medium build, approximately 5’8” tall, wearing a white t-shirt. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Handbag Snatch

At 10:15pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, who is a visitor to the island. The 41 year old American woman stated that she and her husband were walking up stairs located near their accommodation when she felt a tug on her right arm and saw a man flee with her backpack. She gave chase to the suspect, but he was able to make good his escape on a white scooter. The victim sustained bruising to her right arm as a result. The black backpack contained U.S. $250 in cash, a diamond ring, a digital camera, a silver Sprint cellular phone in a black case and personal items. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male wearing a black short sleeved shirt, black shorts and a helmet. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Assault

Around 12:10am on Saturday, Police attended a reported assault on Wellington Slip Road in St. George’s. The victim, a 56 year old Smith’s parish man, stated that around midnight he was driving his truck out of the St. George’s Cricket Club gate with his passenger, a 44 year old Warwick man, when he noticed someone was sitting in the rear of the vehicle. He stopped the vehicle and asked the passenger to get out and see who was in the rear of the truck. The passenger did so and told the suspect, a 20 year old St. George’s man, to get out of the truck. After arguing with the passenger, the suspect complied; however, once out of the vehicle the St. George’s man went to the driver’s side door, opened it and punched the victim several times in the face. The 56 year old attempted to fend off the suspect with his cane, but fell to the ground. The suspect then used the victim’s cane to cause damage to the front windscreen and side mirror of the truck before making good his escape on foot. A short time later after a search of the surrounding area by Police, the suspect was located and arrested. The victim sustained a laceration to his right arm as well as cuts and bruises; however, he was unwilling to attend KEMH for medical treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
