UMARK FOR THE PROTECTION OF YOUR VALUABLES

Bermuda Police Service in partnership with Argus, BF&M, Colonial Insurance and Datatag, are re-launching the very successful UMARK programme that was initially introduced to the island in the early eighties and was a successful crime prevention tool for both residential and commercial users. The new programme, which will be officially launched on Friday the final day of Police Week, is fully supported by a number of our local insurance companies. Bermuda Police Service will introduce “Mr. Crime” the programme’s logo to the community in the form of newly designed stickers and posters with upbeat radio commercials that will encourage the community to mark their belongings so to deter thefts and make identification easier if items were stolen.

Operation UNMARK is designed to protect your property and valuables from theft by simply marking your property. You can deter thieves and make it easer for the Bermuda Police Service to find and return items of value to you, which may have been stolen or lost.

There are many ways “U” can mark your items, but it is suggested you mark your initials, following such with your driving licence number or your date of birth. A new promotional package that will be available for a period of time during the month of November from all three Police Stations and the offices of Argus, BF&M, Colonial Insurance and World Distributors, which will contain the UMARK brochure, an ultraviolet marking pen and a number of colourful stickers. The brochure will give instructions on the best methods to use when marking your property and the registration form for recording your mark so Police can identify your property.

Your registered UMARK will remain on file for three years with the Bermuda Police Service. Whilst UMARK may not stop thieves from stealing your property, it will reduce the risk of theft greatly and increase the opportunities for Bermuda Police Service to recover and return your valuables should they be stolen.
