Around 10:20am on Tuesday, Police attended a report of a swimmer in difficulty at Horseshoe Bay beach on South Road in Southampton. It appears that around 10:10am the victim's wife and sister were swimming at Horseshoe Bay when they experienced some difficulty with the rip tide. The victim, a 68 year old American man, saw this and attempted to go to their aid, when he experienced difficulties himself. The victim's wife and sister were able to make their way to the 68 year old and assist him while calling for help. Lifeguards arrived on the scene quickly and pulled the visitor to shore. They administered first aid and called emergency services which arrived a short time later. The Bermuda Fire Service attended and continued first aid until the ambulance arrived to take the victim to KEMH. As the victim left the beach, he was conscious and in good spirits.
