Fatal RTC

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision that claimed the life of 28 year old Andrew Kemp of Southampton. Officers attended the single vehicle road traffic collision around 3:40am on Sunday. It appears that Mr. Kemp was traveling west on South Road near the junction with Cross Bay Road in Southampton when he lost control, colliding with the nearside curb. As a result the Southampton man was thrown from the cycle, striking a wall. Despite being rushed to KEMH via ambulance, the 28 year old was pronounced dead at 5:45am by an on call physician at the hospital. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Shanee Strong on 297-1122. The Bermuda Police service extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The death of Andrew Kemp marks the 11th road traffic fatality for 2005.

Breaking & Entering

At 3:10am on Sunday, Police on mobile patrol on Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton parish attended Bailey's Ice Cream Parlour after seeing an unknown person on the premises. On arrival the officers heard glass breaking. They then observed one of the suspects, an 18 year old Hamilton parish man, attempt to flee on foot. He was pursued and subsequently apprehended. A second suspect, an 18 year old Devonshire man, was also apprehended in the area. Both men were arrested on suspicion of breaking and entering, taken to the Hamilton Police Station and detained. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Disturbance

At 5:05pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported disturbance at Southampton Rangers Sports Club on South Road in Southampton. On arrival there was no sign of a disturbance; however, a large crowd was in the area. Further inquiries revealed that 3 men attended KEMH with injuries resulting from the disturbance. It appears that a 20 year old man and a 22 year old man were treated and released, while a 21 year old Sandy's parish man received treatment for a severe laceration to his right arm which is not believed to be life threatening. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011.

Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there were 3 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 8 incidents of breaking and entering. There were also 9 damage only road traffic collisions and 7 road traffic collisions resulting in injury.

The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a recent increase in removed auxiliary cycles and motorcycles. We would like to advise the public to secure their vehicle with a supplementary lock as well as the locking mechanism on the cycle before leaving it parked and unattended - even for short periods of time.
