Assault on Police

At 7:40pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported assault on a Police officer at a Rocky Lane, Hamilton parish residence. The injured officer stated that he was at the home attending to another matter when the complainant (resident) pointed out a group of young men that had been throwing rocks at his windows prior to the officer's arrival. The officer approached the group and all fled the area on foot except for a 15 year old Hamilton parish boy. The officer asked to speak with the boy, who threatened the officer with a piece of wood he was holding. The 15 year old then attempted to walk away and was followed by the officer. The Hamilton parish boy then swung the piece of wood at the officer, who put up his left arm to defend himself. The officer then managed to arrest the boy after a brief struggle, with the assistance of the complainant and a neighbour. He was subsequently taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. The officer was treated at KEMH for his injuries and later released. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Robbery

At 5:45pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported robbery at a Smith's parish guest property. On arrival officers spoke with the victims, who are visitors to the island. They stated that around 5pm they were traveling on South Road on their rental cycle returning to the guest property when they were approached by an unknown man on another motorcycle at the entrance to the property. The suspect collided with the rental cycle, causing the couple to fall to the ground. While they were on the ground, the suspect demanded money. The suspect then took a blue knapsack containing personal items from the female victim after a brief struggle and a brown leather wallet from the male victim before making good his escape on a motorcycle towards Devil's Hole. The victims received minor injuries but did not attend the hospital. The victims were unable to give a good description of the suspect. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Injury RTC

At 4:50pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Smith's parish near the junction with Jennings Road. It appears that a 17 year old St. George's boy was riding an auxiliary cycle east on North Shore Road when he overtook another cycle, lost control and collided with a roadside wooden fence. The St. George's boy sustained a neck injury and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment, where he is currently in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. The section of road where the collision occurred was closed to all traffic for approximately an hour. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
