Assault on Police

Around 5:35pm on Tuesday, a Police officer was on foot at the junction of Court Street and Elliot Street in Pembroke when he observed a car traveling north on Court Street, with the driver and passenger not wearing seatbelts. The car then drove on to Elliot Street and stopped near the junction with Court Street. The officer approached the vehicle and the passenger got out, and was spoken to about the officer's observation. As the officer started to speak with the driver, she wound up her window, uttered an offensive word and started the vehicle. She then reversed the car as the officer stood a short distance in front of the vehicle. The woman then drove towards the officer as he shouted for her to stop, with the car hitting him. She then reversed the car again and wound down her window. The officer then informed the driver that she was under arrest for offensive words and assaulting a Police officer. The driver, a 25 year old Pembroke woman violently resisted arrest, attempting to bite the officer as he attempted to apprehend her. Despite telling the Pembroke woman not to resist, she persisted and Captor was deployed. Other officers came to the assistance of the arresting officer and the 25 year old woman was eventually arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station (where she received aftercare) and detained. The officer was treated at KEMH for an injury to his right leg and released. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
