Attempted Robbery

At 9:25pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported attempted robbery at a Loyal Hill Road, Devonshire residence. The victim, a 60 year old Devonshire woman, stated that around 9pm she was parking her car in the garage when she observed an unknown person riding a motorcycle on Loyal Hill Road. She thought nothing of it, collected her belongings from the car and turned on the garage light. The suspect then stopped the motorcycle, got off and approached the Devonshire woman; a struggle ensued, as the suspect attempted to take the victim’s handbag. The 60 year old woman called out for help and the suspect made good their escape empty handed. The victim could only describe the suspect as an individual riding a motorcycle with a wire basket, who may have been wearing a mask. The 60 year old Devonshire woman was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Damage Only RTC
At 9pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision at the junction of Verdmont Drive and Verdmont Road in Smith’s parish. It appears that a car was traveling west on Verdmont Road when the driver, a 25 year old Smith’s parish man, lost control and collided with a wall. The car then caught fire. The Smith’s parish man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained after failing the alco-analyser test. The car was extensively damaged by the fire; however the driver, who managed to get out prior to the fire, was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
Missing Juvenile
The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to ask for the public’s assistance in locating 15 year old Mandela Smith. He was last seen on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 7pm outside his South Road, Paget residence. Mandela is described as dark skinned, 6’ tall weighing approximately 190 pounds with a close haircut. He was last seen wearing charcoal grey track pants, a light grey football jersey with #5 on the front and back and black sneakers. Mandela is known to frequent the Ord Road Paget/Warwick and Somerset areas. He has been seen recently in the Warwick area. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 15 year old Mandela Smith is asked to contact the Juvenile & Domestic Crime Unit on 299-4477 or the main Police number, 295-0011.
