May 19 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive/ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, May 11th – Monday, May 18th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 18
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 44
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 15
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 2, Hamilton parish = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 8, Warwick = 1 and Southampton = 1. 

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 ‘Bobcat’ excavating machine also reported stolen during the period. Of the 15 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered.

Missing Juvenile - Tynieka Bean

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 17 year old Tynieka Bean (pictured right). The teenager was reported missing on Friday, May 1st but has been seen more recently in the Somerset area. She is described as dark skinned, approximately 5’6” tall with dark brown hair and reddish brown highlights, weighing around 200 pounds. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 17 year old Tynieka Bean is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.

Burglary

Around 2:55pm on Monday, Police attended a reported burglary at an Aurora Lane, Southampton residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 6am and 2pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home. The culprit stole a 42” Panasonic flat screen TV and a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC

At 6:30pm on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of Crow Lane and Lane Hill in Pembroke involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian (jogger). It appears that the motorcycle was traveling east on Crow Lane and the pedestrian was also jogging east on Crow Lane when they collided at the junction. The jogger, a 25 year old Pembroke man, was knocked to the ground and taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of a concussion. The rider and passenger of the motorcycle also fell to the ground. The rider, a 30 year old Pembroke man, complained of soreness to his right leg while the female pillion passenger, a 5 year old Pembroke girl, sustained cuts & abrasions to the left side of her face. The motorcycle received moderate front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Missing Person - Mehdi David Yahi

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Mehdi David Yahi (pictured left). Mr. Yahi, a French national visiting the island is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” tall of slim build, clean shaven with black hair. He apparently arrived in Bermuda on Sunday, January 25th 2009 via British Airways. It appears that Mr. Yahi was traveling alone and was last seen around 8pm on Saturday, January 31st at the Fairmont Southampton Resort where he apparently attended the Heather Nova concert. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Mehdi David Yahi is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011.
