Attempted Robbery - At 6:25pm on Thursday, Police received a report of an attempted robbery at the junction of Union Street & North Street in Pembroke. It appears that a taxi traveling on Brunswick Street was flagged down by two unknown men. The two men entered the taxi and not long into the journey began demanding money from the taxi driver, a 59 year old Hamilton parish man, with one of the men brandishing a weapon. However, the taxi driver did not comply with the suspects’ demands and the men eventually exited the taxi at the junction of Union Street & North Street empty handed. The taxi driver was not injured. A short time later, Police arrested four men at a Pembroke residence in connection with this incident. Inquiries are ongoing.

At 10:05pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of an attempted robbery at a Granaway Heights Road, Southampton10pm that day the victim, a 27 year old Southampton man, was at home alone when three men known to him attended his apartment. The three men were allowed to enter the apartment and a brief struggle ensued, with one of the men brandishing a weapon. However, the Southampton man was able to free himself and the three suspects then fled the property empty handed. The victim sustained a minor abrasion to his chin as a result. At 2:50pm on Thursday, Police on patrol in the City of Hamilton had cause to stop a car on Brunswick Street in Pembroke for a minor traffic offence and as a result a 21 year old Pembroke man and a 22 year old Pembroke man were arrested in connection with the Granaway Heights Road incident. Inquiries into the matter are ongoing.

Imitation Firearm Recovered

Around 6:30pm on Thursday, Police attended a Happy Valley Road, Pembroke premises and recovered an imitation firearm. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.

Missing Person

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus. Mr. Augustus, who is of no fixed abode, was last seen on Thursday, February 26th 2009 at Friswells Hill in Devonshire. He is known to frequent the Salvation Army on North Street in Pembroke and was also sleeping in a container in that area. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.
