Tue, 2009-03-10

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for any witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision which occurred around 12:50am Tuesday on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Longford Road, which claimed the life of 29 year old Kevin Mooney (the son of former Chief Inspector Charles Mooney). Anyone with any information about this collision or who may have seen the victim prior to it is encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the motoring public of the following:

The Ministry of Works and Engineering wishes to inform motorists that effective 19th January, 2009, all heavy vehicles greater than 76 inches or 6’-4” wide are prohibited from using North Shore Road between the junctions of Middle Road and North Shore Road [at Palmetto Gardens] and Store Hill Road and North Shore Road.

Due to the narrow road width and the frequency of accidents along this section of North Shore Road, including Flatts Village , the Ministry is required to prohibit heavy traffic.

The vehicle restriction applies to heavy trucks with plate numbers beginning with TT, HC and HB.  This restriction does notemergency vehicle. affect public buses, garbage trucks or any other

The vehicles indicated above are therefore required to use the following routes when approaching the Flatts Village:

  • All applicable vehicles travelling westerly must by-pass Flatts Village and continue on Middle Road (Flatts Hill) to Store Hill Road where they may resume travel along North Shore Road in a westerly direction.
  • All applicable vehicles travelling easterly must exit North Shore Road and make a right turn onto Store Hill, then continue east along Middle Road. When they reach the Harrington Sound Road/North Shore Road/Middle Road (Flatts Hill) junction, they either continue along Harrington Sound Road or North Shore Road in an easterly direction.
  • All vehicles licensed TT are advised to travel via South Road or Middle Road due to the narrow width of North Shore Road and Store Hill Road.
  • Please note that some heavy trucks with TT plates will still be restricted on Harrington Sound Road due to the height clearance restriction at Manor House Bridge.
  • All commercial vehicles will be prohibited from making deliveries and collecting materials in Flatts village between 8.00 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. This prohibition will also include those heavy vehicles indicated above.

The Ministry of Works and Engineering apologizes for any inconvenience caused and seeks the public’s support in implementing these measures which are intended to improve vehicular passage and pedestrian safety within the Flatts Village area.
