Update - Maxwell Brangman/Frederick Gilbert Murder Investigation

Sat, 2008-09-27

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all those persons who have thus far come forward and assisted with the investigation into the murders of Maxwell Brangman and Frederick Gilbert, which occurred sometime during Saturday night/Sunday morning 21st-22nd September 2008. About 6pm on Saturday 27th September 2008, two men were arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in Police custody.

The investigation continues to progress well. During the past week investigators have interviewed several witnesses and have had positive interactions with potential witnesses and persons of interest. A forensic crime scene expert is currently in Bermuda assisting the BPS with examination of the crime scene and the collection of evidence for DNA analysis.

The BPS is extremely encouraged by the level of assistance received from the public recently. Officers investigating these matters continue to receive calls from members of the public offering information regarding the killings. The BPS would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those persons who have come forward and assisted officers in their pursuit of the perpetrators responsible for committing these violent and heinous acts. Indeed, the Bermuda Police Service’s capability to deal with such serious crimes depends to a large extent upon its partnership with the community.

Although the Bermuda Police Service is pleased with the co-operation of the community so far, we would like to make a further appeal, encouraging those individuals with relevant information, particularly those in attendance at an Old School Reggae Party at RAA in St. George, as well as those in attendance at Ovations Night Club on Saturday night 21st and early Sunday morning 22nd of September 2008, to contact Police.

Police are particularly interested in speaking with a female caller who telephoned the Black Horse Restaurant about 6.20pm on Thursday 25th September 2008, offering information about the murder investigation.

Anyone who has any information, whether they believe it to be significant or not, are asked to telephone 299-4315 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-623-8477.
