Attempted Handbag Snatch

At 11:10pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported attempted handbag snatch on Middle Road in Southampton, at the entrance to the Fairmont Southampton Princess hotel. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 48 year old American woman, who is a visitor to the island. She stated that around 11pm as she was getting on the hotels shuttle bus, an unknown man on a motorcycle rode between her and the bus. The suspect grabbed her handbag and a struggle ensued. During the struggle she fell to the ground and sustained an injury to her right big toe and an abrasion to her right shin. A member of the public who was in the area then came to the visitors assistance and attempted to detain the suspect; however, the suspect managed to make good his escape on foot empty handed. Police searched the surrounding area for the suspect, but he was not located. The suspect is described as a black male of slim build wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. The motorcycle used by the suspect was impounded by Police. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Burglary

Around 5:30pm on Wednesday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Paget Lane, Paget residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 9:30am and 6:30pm on Tuesday, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
