Handbag Snatch

Around 6:40pm on Sunday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on South Road in Southampton, near the junction with Cross Bay Road. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 54 year old American woman, who is a visitor to the island. The American visitor stated that earlier she was walking west on South Road with her family when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode past and grabbed her white ‘Coach handbag which was over her right shoulder, pulling her to the ground. The suspect then managed to escape with the handbag, which contained a quantity of cash and personal items. The 54 year old visitor sustained relatively minor injuries, consisting of a bump to her head as well as cuts and abrasions to her knees and elbows. Officers made an immediate search of the area but did not locate the suspect; however, at 8pm that day a member of the public contacted Police after finding the white ‘Coach handbag in the bushes near her Lighthouse Road , Southampton home. The handbag was subsequently returned to the 54 year old American visitor, with all its contents intact. Inquiries into this incident are underway. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the member of the public who found the visitors bag and commend her for her assistance in this matter.

Burglary

At 9:30am on Sunday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Mizzentop, Warwick residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainants who stated that sometime between 12 midnight and 6am that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and jewelry, an I-Pod and an auxiliary cycle, license #068 AD. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there were 5 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 9 reported burglaries (1 in Smiths parish, 1 in Devonshire, 1 in Pembroke, 2 in Paget, 2 in Southampton and 2 in Sandy s parish). There were also 11 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 12 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 10 vehicles reported taken without their owners consent.
