Handbag Snatch

At 11:35pm on Monday, Police attended a reported handbag snatch on Chapel Road in Paget, near the junction with Harbour Road. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 27 year old Southampton woman, who stated that around 11:20pm she was riding a rental cycle west on Harbour Road when her cellular phone rang. The 27 year old then turned on to Chapel Road and stopped the cycle to answer the phone. As the Southampton woman attempted to retrieve the phone from her black ‘Ralph ‘Lauren handbag (which was over the left mirror of the cycle) an unknown man on a motorcycle approached her from behind and attempted to take the bag. A struggle ensued, with the suspect punching the victim in the face and kicking her in the ribs before making good his escape with the handbag, which contained a quantity of cash, a pair of black ‘Ray-Ban sunglasses, a silver Motorola Razr cellular phone and personal items. The victim sustained pain to her ribs and left hand as well as swelling around her right eye; however, she declined medical attention. The suspect is described as a black male of slim build, believed to be in his 50s with a ‘salt & pepper beard. He was riding a red scooter type motorcycle. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Attempted Handbag Snatch

Around 9:15pm on Monday, Police received a report of an attempted handbag snatch. The victim, a 26 year old Devonshire woman, stated that she was riding a rental cycle east on Middle Road in Devonshire around 8:10pm when she noticed an unknown man on a motorcycle following her. The Devonshire woman continued on to Harrington Sound Road in Smiths parish and as she turned on to Manor House Drive, the unknown man on the cycle attempted to take her handbag from the rental cycles basket. She stopped her cycle and a struggle ensued with the suspect. During the struggle, the victim and her cycle fell to the ground; however, she was able to hold on to her handbag and the suspect rode off empty handed. The victim sustained a burn to her right leg from the muffler of the suspects cycle. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male, approximately 58” tall of slim build, believed to be in his 50s with a ‘salt & pepper beard. He was riding a dark red scooter type motorcycle.
