Burglary

Sun, 2007-04-29

At 10:30pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a burglary at a South Road, Paget guest property. The complainants, who are visitors to the island, stated that sometime between 7pm and 10:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their room while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a Dell laptop computer and charger, as well as a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Marine Rescue

At 3:45pm on Sunday, the Police Marine Unit was informed by Bermuda Radio of a 67' sailing vessel approximately 20 miles northeast of the island with an injured crewman onboard. It appears that the vessel, 'Mi Reina', left Bermuda Sunday morning on the last leg of its journey to the Azores when the captain was injured and the crew decided to return to the island. The Marine Unit dispatched 'Rescue 2' with 2 Police personnel onboard (one a trained EMT) from St. George's to render assistance. However, due to the sea conditions offshore, MV Guardian was also dispatched from Barr's Bay in Pembroke with 4 Police personnel and 2 hospital EMTs onboard. 'Rescue 2' arrived on scene first and boarded 'Mi Reina' to provide immediate first aid to the injured captain, who had apparently suffered a laceration to his head after a mishap with a spinnaker pole. The MV Guardian then escorted 'Mi Reina' to Ordinance Island in St. George's where an ambulance was waiting to take the injured 40 year old Italian national to KEMH for treatment. His injury was considered serious, but not life threatening.

Media Note: This is the second time within a week that the MV Guardian has been used for an offshore sea rescue.
