Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit would like to remind the public that when going boating or fishing offshore, a proper float plan should be made prior to departing. The float plan should include where you plan on going, when you're planning to go and when you're planning to return; and a copy should be filed with Bermuda Radio and or family members/friends. The vessel should also have all the required safety equipment onboard, as well as a VHF radio on channel 16, which should be audible. This will assist Bermuda Radio and the Police Marine Unit should they have to make contact with you while you are out on the water. Recently, the Police Marine Unit & Bermuda Radio had to launch an extensive search for a local vessel and its occupants (who did not file a float plan) after their family became concerned for their well being. The boat and its crew were eventually located and returned to shore safely.
