Around 1:55am on Sunday, Police received a report of a road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandys parish involving two cars. It appears that a silver Subaru was traveling east on Somerset Road and a blue Hyundai was traveling in the opposite direction when the Subaru attempted to overtake a taxi and collided with the Hyundai. The Subaru then collided with the wall of St. James Church and ended up in the middle of the road. Both vehicles were extensively damaged as a result. The driver of the Subaru, an 18 year old Warwick man, sustained a fractured ankle while the driver of the Hyundai, a 43 year old Sandy s parish woman, sustained bruising and whiplash injuries. It is believed both drivers were taken to KEMH for treatment of their injuries. Inquiries into this collision are underway.

Advisory – Fraudulent Bank E-mails

In light of recent emails being sent to members of the public purporting to be from local financial institutions (Bank of Bermuda, Butterfield Bank) the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind the public that they should not give out any personal information, including account details, to anyone soliciting it on behalf of any financial institution. Any financial institutions they do business with already have these details, and will not request such information from their clients via e-mail. Anyone asking for any such information via this medium should be ignored.

Crime Prevention Advice for Motorists

Avoid leaving cash or valuables in an unattended vehicle (even if secured in a locked car or the glove compartment). Never leave anything of value in plain view.

Always drive with your doors locked and always lock your vehicle (especially your cycle) even if you will only be away for a few minutes. After dark always park in well-lit areas as close as possible to your destination. Approach your vehicle with your key in your hand. If you think that you are being followed by someone in a car or on a cycle, drive to the nearest Police Station or to a place where there are groups of people.

Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there were 2 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 8 reported burglaries. There were also 22 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 10 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 13 vehicles reported taken without their owners consent.
