Around 4 this morning, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of North Shore Road and Sleepy Hollow Drive in Hamilton parish, involving an auxiliary cycle and a car. It appears that the car was traveling east on North Shore Road and the auxiliary cycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 32 year old man, lost control attempting to negotiate a bend in the road and the vehicles collided. The rider and cycle were briefly stuck under the car. Police officers and members of the public at the scene attempted to free the 32 year old man from under the car, but were unsuccessful until the Bermuda Fire Service EMTs arrived a short time later and were able to extricate the victim. He was initially treated at the scene and then rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of a fractured pelvis, right arm and left leg. The 32 year old man is currently in the Intensive Care Unit; however his injuries, though serious, are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the car, a 35 year old Pembroke woman, was not injured. The car received front end damage and the auxiliary cycle was extensively damaged as a result. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Ronald Richards at Southside Police Station on 293-2222 or on the main Police number, 295-0011.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the members of the public that assisted officers in attempting to free the victim from under the car prior to the arrival of the paramedics.
