Fatal RTC

At 3:55 this morning, Police received a report of a serious single vehicle road traffic collision on South Road in Smiths parish near the junction with McGalls Hill Court. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling east on South Road when the rider, a 33 year old Smiths parish man (Canadian national) lost control, collided with a wall and ended up over an embankment, with the cycle on top of him. The Smiths parish man was rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however, he was pronounced dead at 4:10am by an on call physician at the hospital. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Alson Thomas at Southside Police Station on 293-2222 or on the main Police number, 295-0011. No further information will be released until next of kin are notified.

This marks the 11th road fatality for 2007.

Injury RTC

Around 3:30 this morning, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Southampton, near the junction with Horseshoe Road. It appears that the car was traveling east on South Road when the driver, a 39 year old Pembroke man, lost control attempting to negotiate a bend in the road and the vehicle ended up in a ditch. The Pembroke man sustained a laceration to his left hand and was taken to KEMH for treatment. The car, a silver Peugeot, was extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
