Firearm Incident

Around 12:20 this morning, Police received a report of an incident involving a firearm in the Camp Hill, Southampton area. It appears that the victim, a 24 year old Pembroke man, sustained a single gunshot wound; however, the injury is not believed to be life threatening. He is currently in stable condition at KEMH. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. A team of 13 officers from the Serious & Organized Crime Unit with support from the Intelligence Unit and the Forensic Support Unit are conducting inquiries into the matter.

This incident is being treated very seriously by the Bermuda Police Service and we are appealing for the community to assist us in our investigation. Police are aware that there were a number of individuals in the area at the time of the shooting – these individuals as well as any other witnesses or persons with any information are encouraged to contact Police on 299-4323 or the confidential 24 hour Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-623-8477. Police officers will also be conducting house to house inquiries in the area.

The peace of the holiday season has already been destroyed by a criminal act of violent behaviour. The Bermuda Police Service is appealing to the community to remain vigilant and to assist Police by reporting any suspicious individuals or activities occurring in their neighbourhoods. We are also appealing to community leaders to emphasize the need for calm and restraint at this time and throughout the remainder of the festive season, especially in light of the many public events that are scheduled to take place.
