Arrest

Mon, 2007-12-31

Police can now confirm the arrest of a 20 year old Pembroke man in the Middletown, Pembroke area yesterday. However, contrary to some media reports, the Pembroke man was not in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

While the Bermuda Police Service understands the need to keep the media and the public informed and will continue to do so, that need must be balanced against protecting and maintaining the integrity of any and all ongoing Police investigations.

New Years Activity

The Bermuda Police Service was kept busy during the night of Monday, December 31, 2007 and into the morning of Tuesday, January 1, 2008 with various calls for service; however, no major incidents were reported to Police during the period.

Around 3:10 this morning, Reserve Police officers on patrol stopped a black car being driven in an erratic manner on Church Street in the City of Hamilton outside the Marketplace. While officers conducted checks on the vehicle the driver, a 27 year old Sandys parish man, started the car and drove off heading east on Church Street. One of the officers attempted to disable the car by turning off the ignition, but was dragged to the ground. The car then rolled over the officers right leg before speeding away. The officer was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of road rash to his body and a superficial injury to his right knee and later released. The vehicle was subsequently impounded by Police after being located abandoned in the Pembroke area. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
