Robbery

Around 10:30pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported robbery on the grounds of the Grotto Bay Beach hotel. The victims, a visiting couple from the UK, stated that they had gotten off the bus and were walking along a footpath towards the hotel around 10:15pm when they noticed two unknown men walking towards them. As the two men passed by, one of the men attempted to take the female visitors handbag but was unsuccessful. The same man then demanded money from the male visitor, while brandishing a bladed article. The male visitor gave the man a quantity of cash and both suspects made good their escape. The victims, a 46 year old man and his wife, a 46 year old woman, were not injured. The suspects are described as 25 – 30 year old men; one was of slim build, approximately 54” tall wearing an open faced helmet with the visor up and a light coloured jacket. The other suspect also wore an open faced helmet with the visor up. The suspects are believed to have made good their escape on an unknown motorcycle traveling west (heading towards Swizzle Inn). Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. Georges Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Damage Only RTC

Around 3:30am Saturday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Middle Road in Southampton near Five Star Island. It appears that the car was traveling east on Middle Road when the driver, a 26 year old Sandys parish man lost control, causing the vehicle to go over an embankment and end up near the water. The Bermuda Fire Service also attended the scene. The driver was extracted from the vehicle uninjured but was taken to KEMH via ambulance for observations. The Sandy s parish man was subsequently released. The car was extensively damaged.
