Fatal RTC

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 20 year old Eric Berkeley Jr. of Hamilton parish. At 10:55pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with East Point Lane. It appears that a motorcycle was traveling west on North Shore Road when the rider, a 20 year old Hamilton parish man, lost control. The cycle went off the road and ended up under a palm tree on the northern side of the road. The victim was found lying face down in the eastbound lane. A Police officer at the scene and a nurse, who happened to be driving by the location shortly after the collision, gave the 20 year old Hamilton parish man CPR until the paramedics arrived. He was then rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however he was subsequently pronounced dead at 12:15am on Wednesday by an on call physician. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Errol Peterkin on 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. The death of Eric Berkeley Jr. marks the 7th road traffic fatality for 2007.

Injury RTC

At 10:35am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Court Street in Pembroke near the junction with North Street involving a truck and a pedestrian. It appears that the truck was traveling east on North Street and turned on to Court Street where the vehicle collided with a female pedestrian as she walked across a pedestrian crossing. The victim, a 51 year old Warwick woman, was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of a head injury. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Theft

Around 7:45pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of a theft from an unattended vehicle parked on Devon Spring Road in Devonshire. The complainant stated that sometime between 6pm and 6:50pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her van. The culprit stole a blue Nokia cellular phone. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 10:55am on Tuesday, Police attended a reported theft from Clarendon Pharmacy on Church Street in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the store manager who stated that around 10:30am on Monday an unknown man walked into the store and stole a blue bank bag containing a quantity of telephone calling cards and parking vouchers. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Appeal

The Bermuda Police Service has recently recovered a large quantity of tools, many of which have initials or other identifying marks on them. Therefore, we are appealing for any construction companies or members of the public who have had tools stolen from them during the last year to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 so that these items can be returned to their rightful owners.
