Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, August 4th – Monday, August 11th 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 27
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 29
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 19
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Pembroke = 13, Paget = 1, Warwick = 2 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 2 cars and 1 van also stolen during the period. Of the 19 vehicles reported stolen 5 were subsequently recovered.

TWOC

Around 10pm on Monday, Police received a report of a vehicle taken without its owner’s consent. The complainant stated that sometime between 1pm on Tuesday, July 29 and 3pm on Friday, August 8, 2008 an unknown culprit stole his car, a blue BMW license #04555, which was parked on Crisson Avenue in Pembroke. Police are appealing for anyone with any information on the whereabouts of this car, a blue BMW license #04555, to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

Witness Appeal
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the stabbing incident which took the life of 18 year old Kellon Hill on Tribe Road #4B (the public entrance to Elbow Beach). In particular we are urging any of the teenagers who were in the area at the time or anyone who was at the beach party around 11:30pm Saturday, August 9th to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-4315 or the 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477 with any information they may have about the circumstances surrounding this incident.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the taxi driver Police were interested in speaking with for coming forward and assisting Police with their ongoing inquiries.
