Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, December 15th – Monday, December 22nd 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 19
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 43
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 8
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 6
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Pembroke = 4, Warwick = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 6 vehicles reported stolen 1 was subsequently recovered.

Witness Appeal

Police are appealing for witnesses to the serious road traffic collision that occurred on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Riddell’s Bay Road around 8:35pm on Sunday. Also, we are interested in speaking with anyone who many have been with the victim, a 27 year old Pembroke man, in the 24 hours prior to the collision. He remains in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH in critical condition. Anyone who can assist is encouraged to contact PC Wayne Sealy at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010 or 335-2212.

Burglary
Around 7:30am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at an Arrowroot Lane, Hamilton parish residence. The complainants stated that sometime between 1:15am and 4:40am that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and electronic equipment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
