Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, December 8th – Monday, December 15th 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 13
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 48
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 11
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 1, Pembroke = 7, Paget = 1, Warwick = 1 and Southampton = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 11 vehicles reported stolen 1 was subsequently recovered.

Assault

At 10:55pm on Monday, Police attended a reported assault on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton outside Captain’s Lounge. It appears that the victim, a 32 year old Hamilton parish man, and a male acquaintance got into an argument with two other men. A physical altercation then took place between the victim and one of the suspects, who used a crash helmet to assault the Hamilton parish man. The suspects then made good their escape in a green car. The victim sustained facial injuries and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The main suspect, a 19 year old St. George’s man, was subsequently located by Police and arrested in connection with the incident. The car used by the suspects was also impounded by Police. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary
Around 4:20pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a North Street, Pembroke property. The complainant stated that sometime between 6pm on Friday and 2:40pm on Monday, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into a warehouse on the premises. The culprit(s) stole a ‘Body Solid’ gym system, an air hockey table and a ‘foosball’ table. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
