Marine Advisory

The Marine Police Unit would like to advise all boat owners of the following during the winter months:

  • Vessels should be checked on a regular basis.
  • Battery systems should be kept in good condition and fully charged to ensure proper operation of bilge pumps.
  • Any valuable items or gear should be removed from the vessel.
  • Moorings and bridles should be checked to ensure integrity and security of the attached vessel during winter storms and gales.
  • Ensure vessels are properly secured BEFORE any inclement weather. DO NOT do this during a storm, putting yourself and others at risk.
  • If the owner is off the island someone responsible should be left in charge of checking the vessel whilst the owner is away.
  • Consider hauling the boat out of the water during the winter season if possible.

The Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit would like to extend Seasons Greeting to all and a happy and safe 2009 boating season.
