Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, November 10th – Monday, November 17th 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 11
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 46
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 5
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 17
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 8, Paget = 1, Warwick = 2, Southampton = 2 and Sandy’s parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 pedal cycle also removed during the period. Of the 17 vehicles reported stolen 2 were subsequently recovered.

Robbery
At 10pm on Monday, Police received a report of a robbery on Harrington Hundreds Road in Smith’s parish. The victim, a 17 year old Hamilton parish man, stated that around 8pm that day he was riding his auxiliary cycle along Harrington Hundreds Road when he was accosted by two unknown men on a motorcycle near the junction with Rock Garden Lane. The suspects demanded money from the 17 year old before one of the suspects assaulted him with a blunt object. The suspects then made good their escape with the victim’s wallet which contained personal items and his auxiliary cycle, an orange Yamaha V50 license #018 AM. The Hamilton parish man sustained minor abrasions to his hands & legs; however, he declined medial attention. The suspects are described as two black men riding a black or blue ‘Sniper’ motorcycle. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident, anyone who knows the whereabouts of an orange Yamaha V50 auxiliary cycle license #018 AM or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.
